Somehow, selfish values seem to remain an underlying problem in the U.S.A.
Many of the subcultures in the United States mirror each other, yet, pervasive hatred plagues the nation. Our stories should draw us closer, but many of them push us apart. The nature of the conflicts now stems from a fear of assimilation. Many people tend to espouse multiculturalism, but often, the smaller culture is overshadowed and absorbed by the majority.
Assimilation is a natural phenomenon; people want to fit in. It is not uncommon for people to engage in group behavior because it is what is popular. Why is it a problem?
The truth is that no one wants to be forgotten. People want to live in harmony, no one wants to be absorbed into a larger population in every single facet. Culture provides a certain kind of individuality that allows for multiple perspectives. If everyone is the same, the human perspective becomes limited.
The goal is to create a multicultural society free of assimilation. If the United States can come together in a way that embraces everyone, the future will easier on everyone.
It is expected that by 2060, there will be no majority in the United States. The future of the country depends on a healthy, multicultural society.
